Mitten for the Win!
As many of you know my eldest is studying abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France (southern France). In November she and four of her closest friends went to Rome and explored all the beauty to be had in that lovely, historic city. Fountains, cathedrals and of course amazing shopping. While there one of her girlfriends splurged on a beautiful pair of Italian leather gloves. Buttery soft, buff in color and the price tag reflected their luxury she was over the moon with her purchase - a bucket list item.
Fast forward to the middle of December, this same group of friends flew up to Munich, Germany to take in the famous Christmas Markets. My eldest's boyfriend is a native of Munich and decided to take the group to Schloss Neuschwanstein - aka the Fairytale Castle. On this chilly day the beautiful Italian leather gloves were donned and admired. On the way to the castle the girls exchanged gifts and my eldest presented four pairs of handknit mittens, one pair for each girlfriend. They did the appropriate amount of ooohhing and aaaaahing. Upon arriving at the Romanesque style castle the temperature had dropped a bit and there was some fond "it's cold here... just like at home". The freshly given mittens were pulled out and promptly put on... even the beautiful Italian Leather gloves were replaced with lovely, cozy warm, handknit mittens. That's a win for the mittens no doubt. The mitten pictured is the Antler Mitten by TinCan knits.
